The Runaways

What made me interested in this movie was a video of the cast performing "Cherry Bomb" (pretty cool, see below) posted by a friend of mine on facebook and curiosity about Stewart's acting skills (yeah, "Twilight"...).

It's year 1975, USA. In the beginning we meet Joan, seemingly without any real perspectives or plans- all she's got is her guitar and dream about forming a girl-only band, and Cherie, young, innocent, fascinated by David Bowie. These two get paired by their manager, met by Joan in front of a nigh club who finds her idea of creating a girl band interesting and worth trying. The band gets formed and it all works until it gets actually famous.

Personally, the only things I don't like about that time are the typical hairstyles. Of course, the main characters HAVE to wear them. Luckily, the music was much better so it's great to get to see the movie just to feel that groove a bit. The soundtrack is VERY good, I keep on pressing "replay" button all the time. Hands together for Kristen Stewart, whose voice Joan Jett mistook for her own while listening to the records.

Kristen Stewart portrays Joan Jett smoothly. Whenever you take a look at pictures, you can notice that boy -ish manner of her. With her nonchalance, unconcern and gum chewing, she gives us a real punk rock girl attitude. Another proof (next to e.g. "The Cake Eaters") of being a good actress for those who judge her only on the basis of "Twilight". You go, girl!

There's a lot of what I could write about Dakota Fanning's role. She IS going to be on the top one day. So young, so talented. I'm thinking if her parents were actually OK with her playing that role. Brave.

I'm not really into the bands portrayed in the movie so I can't tell if the plot sticks to the real story but to me, an average person who can only google the subject, all seems true. Plus, that's what do people say. So if you happen to be either Joan Jett & the Blackhearts or The Runaways fan, I'm pretty sure you won't be disappointed.

This is quite a teaser:

Hope you enjoy it!
